Who Rescued Who was founded by two passionate women brought together by their love for animals and their belief that compassion can change communities.
We rescue dogs and cats from shelters, unsafe conditions, and the streets—often from Caribbean islands where resources are limited—and bring them to safety where they can receive medical care, rehabilitation, and loving foster homes.
Working with trusted rescue partners in the Caribbean and across Canada, we help transport animals to safety and prepare them for loving forever homes.
Every animal deserves a second chance at life, and with the help of our volunteers, fosters, and supporters, we work every day to make that possible.

Our mission is simple: to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals in need while building a compassionate community that celebrates the bond between people and animals.
We believe rescue goes both ways.
The animals we save bring joy, healing, and love to the people who welcome them into their lives.

Since launching our rescue efforts, we have worked alongside partners and volunteers to save animals and support communities where help is needed most.

Hannah McNamara, co-founder of Who Rescued Who NS, recently joined The Halifax Network Podcast to share the story behind the rescue and the mission to help dogs and cats in need.
In the interview, Hannah talks about rescuing animals from the Caribbean, the importance of foster homes, and how community support is helping give these animals a second chance at life.
We’re grateful to Chris Crowell and The Halifax Network Podcast for giving Hannah the opportunity to share the rescue’s story.

After spending nearly his entire life in a shelter, Virgil is finally learning what it means to feel safe, loved, and part of a home. This gentle, affectionate boy loves his walks, enjoys learning through training, and once he trusts you, he becomes your loyal shadow — happiest curled up beside you soaking up attention.
Virgil is still learning that the world doesn’t need guarding anymore. With patience, kindness, and a calm environment, he continues to grow more confident every day.
Dogs like Virgil often get overlooked simply because they’ve been waiting longer than others. But the truth is, the ones who wait the longest often love the hardest.
If you’re looking for a devoted companion who will give his whole heart to the right person, Virgil might just be the one.
Currently being fostered in Halifax.
